Amrka is an experimental short that is a poetic meditation on contemporary US society as influenced by Black history and the current climate of militarism and individualism. A performative thread links scenes throughout the film and reflects on the search for a space of belonging in a society composed of disparate elements. Digital video, 16mm film, song, and text merge to construct a narrative of displacement and transcendence.
