Breathwork, excerpt

2:29 min. excerpt of 19:48 min.
2018

This is an excerpt of a larger soundscape that was part of my performance Breathwork at BRIC in Brooklyn, NY, performed on 25 July, 2018. It was created by performing, abstracting, and digitally altering my own vocalizations, combined with digital and analog instrumentation and sonic creations from the Doepfer A-100 synthesizer and Ableton Live. Here I re-interpret and riff off of the phrase “we who believe in freedom cannot rest” from Sweet Honey in the Rock's tribute to civil rights activist Ella Baker - “Ella’s Song” (1988), which is widely regarded as a freedom song in social movements.

The development of this soundscape was supported by my artist residency at Alfred University’s Institute for Electronic Arts in July 2018.
